Dear Parents and Guardians,
Well, we have made it through one fourth of the school year. The quarter ends on Thursday and report card pick up will be in a few weeks. I will be sending home a sign up sheet in the next week so be on the look out for that.
Halloween: Halloween is on Thursday. As per school regulations, we will not be dressing up for Halloween. I will not be having a big celebration in the classroom. We might do some Halloween activities or have a snack at the end of the day. I do not need parents to do anything for the Halloween celebration. I just need your child to come to school that day.
Disrespect in the classroom: We are having a problem with the students being disrespectful to other classmates as well as to me. We have had some class meetings and Mrs. Burns the assistant principal has also come in to talk to the students. I am bringing this up because there is zer0 tolerance from this point forward. Your child knows what is considered disrespectful and will start with writing a think sheet and if the disrespect continues, then the consequence escalates. If you could remind your child about what respect is and what your expectations of them are, it would be helpful.
Spelling: A letter went home last week on pink paper describing our new spelling procedures. I have changed spelling so that the students have more ownership in selecting their words. I have also included spelling homework now that their words are more difficult. The first 7 words are based on the skill and the other eight words are words that your child has selected. I try to look at all the lists and help them create appropriate lists. If you have any questions, please let me know.
IXL/ Stride Academy: I am going to start assigning more computer homework for the students to complete. We are lacking in some basic skills and the websites IXL and Stride Academy will help students become stronger learners. I am asking that you allow your students to have computer time when I do assign the work. Thanks!
Remember no school on Friday, November 1, 2013.
Hope everyone has a great week!
